VSD’s Chris Eubanks, Aja Meyer, Dan Gurganus, Ryan Ferron, and Salim Khalaf participated with a group of friends in the ninth annual Duck Tape Regatta Aug. 18 at Willoughby Harbor Marina in Norfolk. The Duck Tape Regatta is a fundraiser where teams are given a sheet of plywood, two 2x4s, a roll of duct tape, a pound of screws, and four hours to build a boat. Teams decorate their boats in whatever manner they choose, and before the actual races, the boats are inspected and judged. This year, Team VSD’s boat, The Flying Squirrel, was awarded the title of “Best Decorated Boat.”

“We named our boat for and in honor of Virginia Beach’s summer Olympics gold-medal gymnast Gabrielle Douglas,” said Eubanks. “It was a great time for a good cause!”

All money generated by this event goes to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters to support its mission of leading the region in quality children’s healthcare services. Since its inception, the annual Duck Tape Regatta has raised over $150,000 for CHKD.
